Startup Label in Tunisia: How to Get It
What Is the Tunisian Startup Act?
The Startup Act, adopted in 2018, is a pioneering legislative framework in Africa designed to encourage innovation and technology entrepreneurship in Tunisia. It grants labeled companies an unprecedented set of tax, social and administrative advantages. The label is issued by the Startup Act Committee and is valid for a period of eight years from the company's registration date.
Eligibility Requirements
To obtain the startup label, your company must meet several criteria: be a Tunisian-law company registered for less than eight years, have an innovative business model with high growth potential, not exceed annual revenue of 2 million dinars, and not be more than 49% owned by a large corporation. The innovative nature of the project is evaluated by a panel of experts.
Startup Label Advantages
Labeled startups benefit from corporate tax and VAT exemptions during the initial years, state coverage of CNSS contributions, a one-year creation leave for employed founders, and a startup visa facilitating entry for foreign talent. These advantages represent significant savings for young innovative companies.
